Granville Harry Batchelor, son of George A. Batchelor and Kathrine Pearson, served in United States Marine Corps photographic squadron VMD-154. During World War II, he was stationed at Camp Elrod, Espiritu Santo, New Hebrides (now Vanuatu) in the South Pacific.

The Batchelor family appears in the 1930 census in Shawnee, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma. Granville was living with his widowed mother, Kate, and brothers George, Gerald, and James.
