Garvin Cook

The death of Garvin Cook, one of the oldest residents of Middlefield, occurred at his home, Saturday monring, February 21, 1920, his death being due to the infirmities of age. He was the son of John and Harriet (Turner) Cook and was born on the farm now owned and occupied by Gerald Morton, February 22, 1827. he was twice married, his first wife being Clarissa Brown to whom he was married August 31, 1848 and whose death occured October 4, 1879. November 7, 1880 he was married to M. Eleanor Galor who died November 19, 1919. In his earlier days he became a Christian and untied with the Methodist Episcopal church of which he had been a faithful and devoted member for sixty-six years. Frankly outspoken in his denunciation of wrong, conscientious and upright in his dealings with his fellow men, faithful and zealous in his service for the master, these are son of the characteriscts which have made the life of Mr. Cook an influence for good in the community in which he lived for ninety-three years. lacking one day. The passing of mr. Cook, like that of many others of the old, substantial members of the church and community, leaves a vacancy which will not soon be filled. The survivng relatives are one son, the Rev. H.B. Book of Binghamton, one daughter, Mrs. Charles Brown of Richmondville, a sister, Mrs. Betsey Griffin of Binghamton and a brother, the Rev. Ambrose Cook of Johnson City. the funeral was ehld from his late home Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, the Rev. Truman F. hall of Cooperstown, a former pastor, officiating. Burial in the Middlefield Cemetery.
