William Irvin was born in Platte Co, MO to Doctor and Josephine Ellis. He attended school in Pettis Twp, along with his brothers and sisters and helped on the family farm. On Feb 9, 1871 he married Mary Jane Waldron daughter of William Waldron the founder of the town of Waldron. Around 1877 they moved to Prairie Twp, Wyandotte Co, KS where the purchased 80 acres to farm. But just a few year later in May of 1881 Mary died from consumption. William Irvin married again to Josephine Einhellig, daughter of Jacob and Christina Einhellig on May 5, 1881 in Wyandotte Co. They had four sons together, Benjamin Franklin, Walter Frederick, Mount Vernon and William Harrison. Unfortunately sorrow was to follow again. On Mar 25 1890 and Apr 21, 1890 he lost his son Mount Vernon and wife Josephine respectfully. Josie's sister Lizzie helped William with his young sons while he grieved. He and Josie and planned on moving to Oklahoma for the land run but when the two became ill things were put on hold. William decided to go on now with the move and start fresh. He remarried, a Mrs Rachel Woolsey around 1893. She helped raise the boys but the marriage ended in divorce in 1905 in OK. William set up homestead on the NE 1/4 of section 22 in Cedar Twp, Logan Co, OK in Dec 1892.
