Funeral services for Robert L. "Bob" Netterville, 90, who died Monday, February 2, 2009, at St. Dominics Medical Center in Jackson, will be 1 pm Friday, February 6, 2009, at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with Alonzo Welch, Bernard Waites and Coleman Allmond officiating.
Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 11 am until the time of service, Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Netterville was born April 24, 1918, in Wilkinson County, Mississippi, the son of Charles Thomas and Jennie McCranie Netterville.
Bob was raised "on Buffalo" in Wilkinson County and graduated from Beachstand High School. He graduated from David Lipscomb College in Nashville and Pepperdine College in California. He came back to Mississippi to attend law school at the University of Mississippi. Upon graduation, he was immediately accepted into Notre Dame's Naval Officers School and entered the United States Navy as an officer. During World War II, Bob had many roles, serving recognizance, navigating LST's into landing sites, and finally, was commanding officer of Plymouth Naval Base (UK). After the war, Bob returned to Mississippi and ran for and won the race for District Attorney in Natchez. Next, he opened a very successful law firm and practiced law for more than 50 years. Always at his side, was the love of his life, Peggy. They enjoyed more than 57 years together with Peggy either taking dictation in his law office or helping him navigate when flying airplanes. Mr. Netterville is preceded in death by his loving wife, Peggy Junk Netterville; his parents; and five brothers, Charles Netterville, Richard "Dick" Netterville, Rush Netterville, William "Bill" Netterville and Fred Netterville.
Survivors are his four children, Constance Charmaine Netterville of Jackson, Richard Netterville and wife, Jane of St. Joseph, LA, Virginia Conn and husband, Garry of Natchez, and Elizabeth Coleman and husband, Steven of Jackson; three grandchildren, Pamela Grady and husband, James both of Vicksburg, Robert Charles Netterville and Melanie Netterville, both of St. Joseph, Amelia Conn, and Richard Conn of Natchez; two sisters, Katherine Welch and husband, Alonzo and Mary Howell.
Pallbearers will be Robert Charles Netterville, Richard Hiller Conn, Patten Seabrook, Nathan Thomas, Shane Haseloff, Seth Netterville, Matthew Netterville, and James Grady.
Honorary Pallbearers are Seth Haney, Phillip Poole, Gill Smith, Bo Truly, Bill Stine, Lamar Hooker, David Bramlett, Vidal Davis, Cliff McCarstle, and James Biglane.
