Lyle served as a Staff Sergeant & Tail Gunner on a B-24 #44-41086, 513th Bomber Squadron, 376th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He resided in Kidder County, North Dakota prior to the war.
He was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant on June 14, 1944.
Lyle was "Killed In Action" when his B-24 exploded after take-off for an unknown reason in San Pancrazio, Italy.
He was awarded the Purple Heart.

The reason he is named on a group headstone is because when soldiers & sailors were killed in close proximity to each other they were unable, at that time, to identify them separately and interred their remains together in one grave.
