OBITUARY: DEATH OF OTIS B. STRONG
Otis B. Strong, an old and respected resident of Morrisvile, whose illness was mentioned in our last issue, died at his home here Friday morning, aged 72 years. Although having been previously in his usual health, Mr. Strong was stricken with apoplexy on Tuesday morning of last week.
Mr. Strong was a genial and accommodating neighbor and a good citizen. He was born at Perryville but had lived most of his life on a farm northwest of Morrisville, retiring to the village to spend his declining years about six years ago. Mr. Strong saw four years of service as a volunteer in the civil war, having enlisted as a member of Co. B, 169th Regiment, N. Y. S. Volunteers. He was one of the organizers of Otis Tillinghast Post, G.A.R., and was, we believe, its commander at the time the local post was disbanded, a year or so ago, because of its dwindling membership.
Mr. Strong was twice married. His first wife (Martha Mead) died two years ago. About a year later he married Mrs. Eliza Mead of Cazenovia, who, together with one son, survives. The funeral was held from his late home on Monday afternoon, Rev. S. B. Beadle, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church, officiating.
STRONG, OTIS B. – Age, 19 years. Enlisted at Troy, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. B, One Hundred and Sixty-ninth N. Y. Volunteers, February 23, 1864; mustered out with company, July 19, 1865, at Raleigh, N. C.
