Unlike many Victorian women who stopped teaching school when they married, Lou continued to teach through her child bearing years. The Newton Press reported Feb. 15, 1888, that "Mrs. Z. Jones had to give up her school on account of ill health. Arthur Barlow will finish her time." What the paper didn't mention was that Lou would be giving birth in April. She was again identified as a school teacher in the 1900 census.
Lou's sister, Sarah Ann Elberta Abraham, was a silent movies actress and Shakesperean stage actress who used the stage name, Saidee Williams. Sarah first married John Payne Williams, and later married Theodore Mitchell.
