Born Evie Joan Smith to the late Maine natives James, Sr. and Dorothy (Lurvey) Smith in Rockland, Maine on January 23rd, 1933 she was raised and educated in Maine.
Following high school Evie met a handsome young native of Waldoboro, Maine named Albert J. Winchenbaugh. As their love for one another grew the two were eventually united in matrimony on July 1st, 1950 in Rockland, Maine. To this union two sons and two daughters were born.
Evie and Al moved to the Northeastern California community of Chester eight years ago from Applegate, CA where they had resided for eleven years prior. They had moved to Applegate from Redwood City, CA where they had resided for twenty nine years prior.
While residing in Redwood City Evie was active with the Welcome Wagon an organization that welcomed new neighbors into the community. She was always there to lend a hand to her husband in the plumbing business. A dedicated wife and mother she took great pride in her family. Evie loved to work crossword as well as jig saw puzzles. In her youth she loved the oceanside and was an avid swimmer.
In passing Evie leaves her sons; Alan and wife Sue, of Woodland, CA, Barry and wife Heidi, of Applegate, CA, daughters; Elaine VanderWal and husband Leslie, of Redwood City, CA, Judy Oneto of Chester, CA, brothers; James Arthur "Sonny" Smith of Damariscotta, Maine and Ralph Colby of Sprucehead Island, Maine, eight grand and one great grand child. She was anxiously expecting her second great grandchild in February of 2009.
Along with her loving husband of fifty eight years Al, she joins in her eternal home her sisters Berniece and Ruby along with brothers Kenneth and Chester.
A celebration of Evie's life will take place at the gravesite in the Chester District Cemetery, 1:00PM Friday, November 21st, 2008. An opportunity to express your condolences to the family along with signing the memorial guest register is available online at www.fehrmanmortuary.com. In tribute to her husbands longtime affiliation with the Masonic Lodge Evie had requested any remembrances in her memory be made to the Sacramento Shriners Childrens Hospital c/o Fehrman Mortuary and Crematory P.O. Box 803 Greenville, CA 95947.
