David L. Stencil

87, Wausau, died Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

He was born July 9, 1921 in Poniatowski, son of the late Leo and Anna (Pospyhalla) Stencil. On August 22, 1942, he married Ruth Janisch at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cassel. She preceded him in death on October 25, 2002.

David served in the United States Navy from 1943 – 1946 and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8895, Schofield. For 42 years, he taught Math and Science at D.C. Everest Middle School where he retired on June 6, 1984. David was a founding member of The Church of St. Anne where he ushered for many years and was active in many church events. Among his interests, he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.

Survivors include, one daughter, Shirley (James) Britten, Webster, Minn.; two sons, Dennis (Jean) Stencil, Wausau and Duane (Mary) Stencil, Wausau; four grandchildren, Chris (Neil) Modjewski, Weston, Andy (Sheena) Britten, Elcho, Brian Stencil, Eau Claire and Danielle Stencil, Wausau; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Alvina (Frank) Szymanski, Milwaukee; and one sister-in-law, Iva Hanson, Green Bay.

The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2008 at The Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Rev. Steven Brice will preside. Friends may call Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Burial will be on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau.

Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
