Claude McDonald, a special detective for the Rock Island Railroad Police, was shot at Chickasha, OK. He and another officer (who was also his cousin) were making a walking inspection of the train yards looking for box car thieves. A man jumped from a box car and shots were exchanged, in which Detective McDonald was killed.

Several months later, the suspect was shot and made a Death Bed confession of the shooting.

He was survived by his wife, Pearl, and 3 month old child.
