Daughter of Silas & Deborah Tobey Swift, wife of Emerson Brown.
In 1800 in Massachusetts Rebecca Swift married her first husband Ebenezer/Lemuel Martin whom she left (according to records from 1807 from The Second Baptist Church of Cheshire Massachusetts where she & her parents had attended church). Her second husband was Emerson Brown.
Emerson & Rebecca lived in Adams, Berkshire County, Massachusetts and in 1813 permanently settled in Smithfield/Peterboro, New York.
Two of Rebecca's sisters also moved to Smithfield, New York: Bathsheba Swift (1777-1842) who was married to Stephen Peckham (1780-1853) and Abigail Swift (1785-1858) who was married to Winchester Mathewson (1776-1863).
Emerson & Rebecca had the following children together:
Emerson Brown, Jr (1808-1852)
Frederick G. Brown (1810-1889)
Jerome B. Brown (1811-1883)
Reuben Brown (1812-1890)
Elisha M. (aka E. M.) Brown (1815-1860)
Dean Swift Brown (1816-1903)
Wiliam M. Brown (1818 or 1822-1905)
Judson Brown (1819-1847)
Maria Janet Brown Thompson (1824-1852)
5 of their sons, Jerome, Reuben, Elisha M., Dean S., and Judson moved to the territory of Wisconsin.
Mentioned in Rebecca's probated will announcement is a "Lemuel Martin" from the state of Michigan. I don't know if that is her first husband or whether she & her first husband had a son named "Lemuel."
