Neva Leona White, age 85, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2005 in the Conroe Health Care Center. She was born October 13, 1920, in Mexia, Texas.
Neva was a graduate of Mexia High School in 1937 and attended Westminister Junior College. Later, she attended Stamps Music School in Dallas and became one of the teachers. She was a noted pianist and played for different Stamps quartets. In 1952, after moving to Conroe, she joined her husband in the insurance business where she was active until her retirement. She was also the manager of Sears, Roebuck and Company in Conroe from 1956 to 1962. In her spare time, she assisted the sick and elderly in the Conroe area and worked with the Golden Years Sunshine Group for senior citizens for eleven years.
Predeceased by her husband, Thomas Calvin (T. C.), she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kaye and John Powell of Montgomery; son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Cathy White of Lambertville, New Jersey; sister, Reba Black of Mexia; brother and sister-in-law, Andrew and Anita Kay Fleming of Mexia; six grandchildren, Kathy Gay Mares and her husband Bodie, Robert Powell, Ivy Powell Brown, Toney Powell, Robert Beacham and wife Deanna, and Michael Beacham. Nine great grandchildren, John Taylor Powell, Tiffany Mares, Victoria Mares, Caitlyn Mares, Grace Brown, Kristin Beacham, Courtney Beacham, Devon Beacham and Michael Beacham also survive.
Graveside funeral services and interment will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2005, at 2 p.m. in the Shiloh Cemetery, Mexia. Officiating will be Rick Gray, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Mexia. Family and friends may call and pay their respects from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe.
