Born in the Island of St. Domingo, died in Charleston / After a Residence of 43 years. If this stone does not commemorate her Worth and her many virtues, it is because in her last moments, she desired that on her monument should be Inscribed no eulogy, but the most simple inscription requesting the prayer of the faithful, thus humility crowned her other merits of a long useful and well spent life, but her memory shall not fade nor cease to be in benediction / Her good deeds will long survive in the hearts and on the lips of many, her virtues and charities / are recorded in the Book of life / and are known to him who will reward / In your Charity pray for their souls.

Ann ran a finishing school for young girls in Charleston and her school was widely known and respected. She was rescued by her nurse while still an infant in the Santa Domingo insurrection in 1793.
