Sarah Ruth White, 97, of Prairie City, died Dec. 8, 2008 at Blue Mountain Nursing Home. A funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in John Day. Interment was at the Canyon City Cemetery.

Mrs. White was born Jan. 31, 1911 in Albion, Idaho to James and Emma (Draper) Andrews. She married Oscar White in Weiser, Idaho, March 16, 1929.

She loved to crochet, knit, garden and make crepe-paper roses. She enjoyed making Afghan blankets, socks, dishcloths, tablecloths and bedspreads for her daughters and grandchildren.

Survivors include her three daughters, Julia Ileta (Noble) Hicks of Prairie City, Lola Kastl of John Day and Marilyn (Vern) Randall of Mt. Vernon; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Oscar, who died in 1989; great-grandson, John Peter O'Rorke; and all her brothers and sisters.
