SPRINGFIELD - Carl J. Bietsch, 91, of Springfield died at 10:57 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 9, 1917, in Springfield, the son of Albert and Rose Strube Bietsch. He married Alberta McCarthy on April 9, 1950; she preceded him in death on Sept. 28, 1998.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harry and Albert Bietsch; a sister, Erma Horn; and a granddaughter, Andrea Lyn.

He is survived by a daughter, Sharon (husband, Brian) Turk of Springfield; two grandchildren, Kristina Turk of Chicago and Matthew Turk of Springfield; two sisters, Elsie (husband, Louis) Peters and Rosie (husband, Frank) Ramirez, both of Springfield; a brother, Walt (wife, Pat) Bietsch of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Carl was a lifelong resident of Springfield. He worked for Reisch Brewery for 30 years and the Springfield School District for 18 years before retiring.

He was a member of AFSCME Illinois Retirees Chapter 31 and AARP. He was also a member of the United States Army, serving during World War II.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, with Monsignor John Ossola officiating.

Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Alzheimer's Association.
