Rev. Lewis Hampton Stuckey was one of the early Circuit Rider ministers in Indian Territory. In October 1888, the Annual Conference of the Indian Mission of the Methodist Episcopal Church South met in Pierce Institute at White Bead Hill (community that began in 1870 on Stage Route from Boggy Dept and Fort Washita to Fort Sill). At that conference, the Rev. L. H. Stuckey was appointed to the Ardmore Circuit and the Broadway Methodist Church of Ardmore, Indian Territory. He also served on the Lone Grove Circuit riders, too. Ardmore's First United Methodist Church building was erected during pastorate of Reverend Lewis H. Stuckey in 1890. Membership shown for the beginning of the church and the time period under the pastorship of Rev. L. H. Stuckey was as follows: a) Year of 1888 - 13 church members and b) Year of 1890 - 93 church members. Rev. L. H. Stuckey is the only early circuit rider ministers of the church to be shown on horseback in the First UMC's collection of minister photos.
