Anna Mae Gerber

Anna Mae Gerber, age 91, of Laurie, MO, formerly of Independence, MO, passed away October 3, 2008, at the Laurie Care Center in Laurie, MO. She was born January 8, 1917, in Jefferson City, MO, the eldest child of Kathryn Sue and Rufus Alfred Huddleston. On November 20, 1938, she married Fred W. Gerber, who died in May of 1983, in Independence, MO. Surviving are one son, Michael "Mick" Gerber and wife Janie of Laurie, MO; granddaughter, Missy McKenzie and husband Kirby of Columbia, MO; granddaughter, Marlo Simpson and husband Ben of Lee's Summit, MO; grandson, Brent Gerber of Ozark, MO; five great- grandchildren, Jeremy McKenzie, Megan McKenzie, Benedetto Simpson, Cooper Simpson, and Krysytl Gerber; sisters, Mary Ruth Cox of Raytown, MO and Martha Hentges of Jefferson City, MO; and a favorite niece, Sue Wise of Lee's Summit, MO. Prior to moving to the Lake area, Anna Mae lived most of her life in Independence. During those years, she spent many summer weekends at the Lake of the Ozarks. A favorite form of recreation was bowling with her husband. They always had a huge garden of tomatoes every year. Professionally, Anna Mae worked at Lake City and retired from General Motors (Leeds) after 34 years as Head Cashier. She was a voracious reader and had accumulated quite an extensive library of reading materials. She loved her dogs and always had a pet on which to shower her special attention. Anna Mae enjoyed traveling and, after retirement, was able to take several cruises and group tours with family and friends. Anna Mae was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her siblings, Kathryn Lee, Dorothy Jean, Rufus Alfred, Jr., Robert Henry, William Ralph, Richard Edward, Donald Eugene, Mary Ruth, and Martha Sue. A graveside service will be conducted at Floral Hills Cemetery in Raytown, Missouri, on Monday, October 13, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Mid Continent Public Librar-Children's Section, in care of Qun Fang, 15616 E.
