Richard "Gordon" Wiltse, age 94, of Altoona, Kansas passed away Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Fredonia, Kansas. Gordon was born on September 11, 1914 in Altoona, Kansas the son of Floyd and Della (Roney) Wiltse.
Gordon graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Agronomy. During World War II Gordon served his country in the United States Army Air Corp earning the rank of Lt. Col. On December 2, 1939, Gordon was united in marriage to Betty Jane Spaulding in Osawatomie, Kansas. He was a member of the High Prairie United Methodist Church. Other memberships included American Legion Post 170 and VFW Post 1654 both in Chanute, Kansas. Gordon also served on the Mid America Dairy Board.
Gordon is survived by three sons; Richard G. Wiltse II of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, David P. Wiltse of Ottawa, Kansas, and James B. Wiltse of Waco, Texas, two daughters; Kathleen Beal of Fredonia, Kansas and Jane Pringle of Lyons, Kansas, fourteen grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, two sons; Floyd Wiltse and Jon Wiltse and one brother Dale Wiltse.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Countryside Funeral Home with Pastor Robin Haines officiating. Interment with military honors will be at High Prairie Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2:00 to 7:30 PM with family receiving friends from 5:30 to 7:30. Family suggests contributions to either the Fredonia Regional Health Care Foundation or the High Prairie Methodist Church and may be left in care of the funeral home.
