Together Willa and her life partner, Vernon Smith, adopted Christopher Shelley. They opened up their hearts and home to many, many foster children over their years together. Willa lost Vernon September 11, 1998.

Willa lost her beloved twin sister, Faye, in a fire that destroyed her home last June. She was diagnosed with cancer soon after. Willa never gave up and was a huge inspiration to everyone she touched. She looked forward to moving into her new home.
