INEZ MAE (FREML) ROSTERMUNDT

Inez Mae, daughter of Charles M. and Anita A. (Hammer) Freml, was born February 26, 1920, in Milford Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She attended Milford Rural School #2 near her home and St. Ann's Academy in Vail. She helped out at home on the family farm and at the homes of neighbors and others.

On September 30, 1941, Inez was united in marriage with Carl Paul Rostermundt at St. Ann's Church in Vail. Twelve children were born to this union. Inez and her eldest child, Carole, lived with grandparents in Manning and Vail while Carl served in the Army during WWII. Upon his return, the family made their home in Manning and later farmed and lived on the land that is now Great Western Park and then northeast of Manning. The family also moved to live and farm in the Deloit and Vail areas before settling in the Manilla area. Inez worked as a church caretaker at Sacred Heart Church in Manilla. For over 20 years Inez was employed by the Manilla Manor Nursing Home as an activity assistant. She was also a news correspondent for area newspapers.

Inez enjoyed creative pursuits, including sewing, quilting, gardening and many crafts. She loved to play cards and treasured time spent with her family. Inez was a member of Sacred Heart Church and served as past president of the Altar & Rosary Society. She was active in numerous clubs, including the American Legion Auxiliary, Nishna Valley Club and Birthday Club.

Due to health problems, Inez became a resident of the Manilla Manor Nursing Home in Manilla, Iowa in 2003. She died peacefully in her sleep there on Sunday morning, December 28, 2008, at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 2 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father George Freml; husband Carl Rostermundt in 1996; son Charles Rostermundt; son-in-law Daryl Chapman; and great-grandson Gavin Stone.

Inez is survived by her children: Carole Chapman of Manilla; Mary Long (Bob) of Perry; Kathleen Wenck (Duane) of Lidderdale; Connie Huffaker (Rod) of Overland Park, KS; Kenneth Rostermundt (Vivian) of Council Bluffs; Patricia Lewis (Tommie) of Arcadia, IN; Joan Rostermundt of Council Bluffs; Michele Olson (Alan) of Manilla; Diane Van Zee (Kent) of Urbandale; Jean Gurule (Anthony) of Longmont, CO; and Michael Rostermundt of Manilla; 36 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; brother Wesley Freml of Denison; sisters Anita A. Cook of Wall Lake and Marjorie Harlow of Denison; sister-in-law Marie Nulle of Manning; brother-in-law Leo Rostermundt (Elizabeth) of Denver, CO; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Arrangements entrusted to Ohde Funeral Home.

Visitations and prayers were Thursday, January 1, 2009, after 3:00 p.m. Rosary at 5:00 p.m. Prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, Manilla, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial was Friday, January 2, 2009, 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, Manilla, Iowa with the Rev. Robert Gralapp, Celebrant; Michelle Ahrenholtz, vocalist; Sacred Heart Choir; Irene Feilmeier, organist. Casketbearers - Inez's granddaughters; Jane Bandow, Deborah Long, Tara Van Zuiden, Shawna Sabapathy, Stephanie Rostermundt, Michele Minor, Natalie Dennis, Andrea Pedersen. Honorary Caskebearers - Inez's granddaughters; Theresa Stone, Marilynn Coleman, Regina Ransom, Lynda Benson, Sara Wells, Sheila Beuter, Marjean Stalewski, Erin Campbell, Carly Wenck, Kristin Knight, Leslie Cooney, Nelia Olson.
