The Fulda community lost one of its prominent, respected farmers last week in the death of Edward E Appel, who died at his farm home. The cause of death dates back to a stroke he suffered some fourteen years ago. From this illness he apparantly recovered and seemed in the best of health since that time. Arising at the usual time last February 17th after a day when he had seemed unusually well, he suffered a stroke as he was preparing for breakfast. In the month that followed he improved until he was able to sit up for a while each day. But more recently his condition showed a turn for the worse and two weeks before his death he suffered another stroke after which he gradually failed until the end came last week Tuesday.

Ed was born on a farm near Fulda the son of John & Louisa Pietsch Appel. He received his education in the rural schools and learned farming on the family farm. He was married on February 20, 1906, to Miss Mary Ramert, daughter of Frank & Josepha Busch Ramert. They settled on a farm north of Fulda where they remained for a few years, and then moved to the farm east of Fulda which has since been the family farm.

Edward & Mary were the parents of Harry Appel, Donald Appel & Irene Stenzel.

Ed's siblings include Gus, John, Guido, Augusta Exner, Minnie Haberman, Josephine Appel, Louise Haberman, Margaret Koopman, Cecelia Dean, and Laura Kennedy. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary, who died in 1899.

Ed was a good neighbor and friend and was devoted to his family. He loved the out-of-doors and was fond of hunting and fishing for recreation.

The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Father Meyer.
