Abraham Lincoln's granddaughter, Jessie Harlan Lincoln Beckwith Johnson Randolph, was his last surviving descendant to be born with the Lincoln surname. She was also the mother of Abraham Lincoln's last known surviving descendent, Robert Todd Lincoln Beckwith, who died December 24, 1985.

Jessie Harlan Lincoln was born November 6, 1875. Most sources indicate that she was born in Chicago, IL. However, her death notice published on Monday, January 12, 1948, in the Mt. Pleasant News says that she was born in the Mt. Pleasant, IA, Harlan-Lincoln Residence which was later donated to Iowa Wesleyan College.

Jessie's father was Robert Todd Lincoln, who served as Secretary of War under Presidents Garfield and Arthur, and then as Ambassador to the United Kingdom under President Benjamin Harrison, and who then was Counsel, President, and Chairman of the Pullman Palace Car Company. Jessie's mother was Mary Eunice Harlan, daughter of Senator James Harlan from Mt. Pleasant, IA. James Harlan was a Republican U.S. Senator from Iowa. He served in the Senate from 1855-1865, resigning from the Senate when he was appointed as Secretary of the Interior by President Andrew Johnson and served until 1866. He was reelected to the Senate in 1867, and served until 1873.

Jessie Harlan Lincoln married Warren Wallace Beckwith on November 10, 1897. Warren Beckwith was a star football player at the college in Mt. Pleasant, IA, and played professional baseball. Warren and Jessie had two children, Mary Lincoln Beckwith and Robert Todd Lincoln Beckwith. Jessie and Warren Beckwith divorced in 1907.

Jessie Lincoln Beckwith later married Frank Edward Johnson in 1915. After that marriage ended, she married an electrical engineer named Robert John Randolph, in 1926. Neither of those two marriages produced any additional children.

Jessie lived at Hildene, the Lincoln family homestead in Manchester, VT, for the latter part of her life. At the age of 72, she died at Rutland Hospital in Rutland, VT, on January 4, 1948. Her daughter, Mary Lincoln Beckwith, later died there July 10, 1975.

Jessie's January 12, 1948, death notice in the Mt. Pleasant News says that her funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 1948, at "Hildene," the Robert Todd Lincoln Estate in Manchester, VT. It also says that her body was to be placed in a vault, and then to be removed to Arlington National Cemetery in spring for burial in the Robert Todd Lincoln plot. However, it says at, that she is buried at Dellwood Cemetery, fifty feet past Hildene. The road you see in Jen Snoots' photo (on this page) of her gravestone is the road that leads to Robert Todd Lincoln's Hildene home.
