According to the War of 1812 Military Records, John SLAGLE of Shenandoah & Washington Cos., Virginia & Gallia Co., Ohio, was a private in the 12th Virginia Regt., Company Commander Capt. T. P. Moore, and enlisted 4 March 1813, by Lt. Johnston for 5 years, in Washington Co., Virginia. John SLAGLE was 5 ft. 8 1/2 in. tall, had grey eyes, light hair and dark complexion, age 26 at enlistment [1787], born Shenandoah Co., Virginia, occupation blacksmith.
