Mildred Leona (Kennicutt) Porath, 99, passed away March 3, 2012, at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home.
Mildred was born Nov. 2, 1912, to Raymond and Edna (Frazier) Kennicutt at their farm home near Eddyville. She learned many skills in their home and received her education in the Eddyville schools, graduating in 1930. The next 4 years she took classes at Kearney Normal School and taught rural schools in Dawson and Buffalo Counties.
Mildred was united in marriage to Edmund Harold Porath on June 10, 1934, in a small ceremony in her parent's home. They lived in the Porath home in the Elk Creek community in Custer County, farming and caring for Edmund's parents until their deaths.
In 1944 the Poraths moved to Seneca. In 1953 Mildred returned to teaching school and attending college classes in the summers. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1962 and taught until 1974.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol (Ruben) Ruybalid, of Central City, and Melba (Wilford) Baldwin, of Caldwell, Idaho; one son, Gaylord (Bonnie) Porath, of Mullen; one sister, Beulah Kennicutt, of Ft. Collins, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund; two sons, Alton and Leland; her parents; one brother, Leslie Kennicutt and one sister Veldegene Kennicutt.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 7, from 1-8 p.m. (MST) at the Mullen Funeral Home, Mullen.
Services will be on Thursday, March 8, at 10 a.m. (MST) at the United Church of Christ in Seneca. Interment will be at 4 p.m. (CST) on Thursday at Elk Creek Cemetery south of Ansley.
