OBITUARY: The Cooper Review, 5 September 1974
Earnest A. Askew, 72 years of age, died at 1:40 a.m. Saturday at the VA center
in Bonham. Mr. Askew was born in Delta Couty, October 13, 1901, the son of Andrew and Cynthia Ann (Hurst) Askew. He was a veteran of World War II and a retired
farmer. He had been a resident of Delta County all his life. Survivors include two sons, Harold Askew of Ben Franklin and Don Askew of Winnsboro; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Poteet of Houston and Mrs. Wanda Faye Williams of Garland; three brothers, Preston Askew of Possum Kingdom Lake, Delbert Askew of Orange, and William T. Askew of Ft Worth; two sisters, Mrs. Johnnie Stotts of Fort Worth and Mrs. Lizzie Virgil of California; and several grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Delta Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bart Smith, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment followed in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cooper. Pallbearers were Fred Huie, Jessie Paul Allen, Willie Flanary, Roger Gessman, Larry Skinner and R. C. Ewing.
