R. J. Acton, 73, pioneer resident of Delta county, passed away at Janes Clinic and Hospital (on) Wednesday at 6:10 a.m., following an operation earlier in the month.
Funeral services were held Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Church of Christ, conducted by Leonard Mullens, minister, assisted by Elder J. D. Wheeler. Burial was made in Oak Lawn cemetery by Delta Funeral Home.
Robert Jackson Acton was born in Birmingham, Ala., February 17, 1869. He was married to Rilla Johnson in Alabama (on) November 1, 1888. To this union was born 12 children, five having died in infancy. The children by the first marriage are: Mrs. J. T. Dawson and Mrs. W. T. Bryan, Cooper; Mrs. R. B. Hooten, Birthright; Mrs. E. G. Hayes, Clarendon; Mrs. J. L. Cross and Mrs. Roy Anderson of Longview; and an only son, Charles C. Acton of Dike. He is survived also by 24 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
His wife died in 1910 and in 1912 he was married to Sallie A. Owen of McKinney, who survives him. His children visited with him during his recent illness. Mr. Acton came to Texas in 1895 and settled on the B. F. Clark place at Cross Roads. The following year he moved to Amy and helped to establish the Church of Christ there. He served as elder at the Amy church until he moved to his present home on route 1. After moving, he placed his membership here in Cooper. He was devoted to his church and it can be truly said by his host of friends over the county: He was a Christian gentleman. – Cooper Review (Cooper, TX), 27 Mar 1942

COOPER (Special)—Funeral services for R. J. Acton, 73, were for 3 p. m. Thursday at the Church of Christ, conducted by minister, Leonard Mullins, with interment in Oaklawn Cemetery by Delta Funeral Home.
He died Wednesday at Janes Hospital where he had gone two weeks ago for a major operation.
A native of Delta County, he had engaged in farming East of own.
He leaves his wife and these children: Mrs. J. T. Dawon, and Mrs. W. T. Bryan. Cooper; Mrs. B. R. Hooten, Sulphur Springs; Mrs. E. J. Hayes, Clarendon; Mrs. E. J. Cross and Mrs. Srma Anderson, Longview, and Charlie Acton of Dike, besides several grandchildren.
