Ninth generation descended from Epke Jacob Banta who left Holland in 1639. h/o Sarah E. (Long) Banta. f/o Andrew J. Banta; James A. Banta; Vinie Banta; Betty (Banta); Annie (Banta); Amy (Banta); William H. Banta; Grace (Banta); Nettie (Banta). William's education was limited to the pioneer log school house. He left home at age 20 in 1861 and enlisted in the 1st Kentucky Mounted Riflemen of the Confederate Army. Out of 10 soldiers sent out on an assignment, only William and William Boaz escaped capture, finally making it all the way to Ridge Farm. See for story. William worked for brother James Henry Banta at Ridge Farm for about a year, and in 1865 he married and purchased 85 acres, 5 miles from Ridge Farm. William F. Banta of Humrick, IL, died one week ago last Monday, April 24, 1898, aged past 57 years. He was a good citizen, and always enjoyed innocent sport. He always attended our county fair when there was a fox chase on the program, with a lot of fast running hounds, and hardly ever failed to take first premium in the chase. He was a Kentuckian by birth and an ex-Confederate soldier, having served under the daring John Morgan. He had been a member of the C.P. Church since 1872, and lived a Christian life.
