Jane E. (Olmstead) Bjelko, age 93, of Ball Pond Road, Danbury, wife of the late Steave Bjelko, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, January 27. She was born in Danbury on December 14, 1915, daughter of the late Archibald and Effie (Knapp) Olmstead. She graduated from Danbury High School, Class of '35. She will be sadly missed by her great niece Debra J. Olmstead and her companion Seamus Walsh, who cared for her during her final months; her nephew, Aaron H. Olmstead and his wife Kathi, as well as her great nephew and niece, Aaron W. Olmstead and Christina Olmstead, all of Danbury; her niece, Anne Kreffer and her husband, Tom, and their daughters, Laurie, Susan and Tina, of Vermont, special niece and nephew, Connie Frost and Frank Schneider, and his wife, Joan. She is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Her furry companions Mitzi and Tia will be missing her too, as well as her neighbors, Louise and Millie. She was predeceased by her sisters, Bess Olmstead, Marian Kohler, Julia Schneider and Ruth Genest; her brothers, Walter, Wilbur, Clarence and Ralph (Roadie) Olmstead. She was a member of the Congregation Church of New Fairfield. Pastor Pat, and member, Carol Lee, visited her frequently. Jane had been very involved with the Republican Party and was a pollster at various precincts on Election Day. She was also a member of King Street Dorcas Society for many years. Graveside services will be held at Gerow Cemetery, in New Fairfield on Monday, February 2nd at 1:00pm. There are no calling hours. The Cornell Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 405 Main Street, Danbury, CT 06810 or to the charity of one's choice. Jane's family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Regional Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.
