Nellie Murphy, 82, a native of Danvers for 52 years, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009 at her home in the company of her loving family.
She was born in Peabody, the daughter of Tichon and Elizabeth Krechmarowski of Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School, Class of 1944.Prior to starting a family, she worked as a telephone operator for New England Telephone in Peabody and retired from the Town of Danvers after 20 years of dedicated service in the cafeteria of the Willis E. Thorpe Elementary School.Nellie enjoyed quilting with her friends at the Peabody Senior Center and lavishing her family and friends with her creations. Nellie enjoyed summering in Wolfeboro, N.H., camping, playing bingo and polka dancing across New England, and lunching with family at the Clam Box.Nellie and her husband Bill loved to travel, exploring Switzerland, Ireland, Italy, Canadian Rockies, and the five National parks among their many trips. She loved her Red Sox and Celtics, and took great pride and joy in their recent championships. She shared her passion for sports with her husband and her five boys.In addition to her beloved husband of 53 years, Bill, Nellie is survived by her five sons and their wives; Brian and Ingrid of Douglas, Kevin and Gayle of North Andover, Billy and Diane of Pepperell, Bobby and Julie of Mountain View, Calif., and Tommy and Jeannine of Stoneham. She is also survived by her twin sister Olga of Peabody, three nieces and nephews, and 10 grandchildren, Drew, Laura, Tommy, Elizabeth, Bonnie, Sarah, Bridget, Kellen, Evan, and Evelyn.ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 a.m. in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Danvers. Visitation will be on Friday in the Mackey Funeral Home, 22 Conant St., Danvers, from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial in Annunciation Cemetery. If desired, donations can be made in Nellie's memory to Beacon Hospice, 100 Cummings Center, Suite 222C,
