Joseph Alva "Pete" Edwards, 80, of Scott City died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born July 21, 1928, in Russellville, Ark., son of Joseph Payton and Ella Mae Standridge Edwards. He and Anna Lee B. Baker were married April 2, 1949, at Chaffee, Mo.
Edwards was a heat treater with the Division of Aerospace in Industry, Calif. He was a member of American Legion 389 in Chaffee.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Joel Edwards of Redlands, Calif., Larry Edwards of Phoenix; five daughters, Elizabeth Hacker of Covina, Calif., Catherine Foster, Betty Oliver and Joan Haas of Scott City, Margaret Rine of St. Louis; three brothers, Ray Edwards of Claremore, Okla., Wayne Edwards of West Covina, Calif., J.D. Edwards of Sikeston; 19 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the chapel, with Adam Martinez officiating. Burial will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.
