Brother Chester A. Butler, 82, of Panama City, Fla., passed this life Monday, Jan. 26, 2009.

He was born June 24, 1926, in Jackson County, Fla., to the late Mr. Raymond and the late Mattie Butler Sr. Brother Chester was a faithful member of St. James AME Church. He recently moved his membership to Millville Worship Center to be with his wife.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jerome and Raymond Jr.; and three sisters, Ollie Mae, Catherine and Mary Lee. He leaves to cherish his loving memory a devoted wife of 47 years, Arlene Butler; four sons, Charles Green (Daisy) of Thonotosassa, Fla., Chester Butler Jr. (Irma) of Miami, Fla., Charlie Smith (Rose) of Lynn Haven, Fla., and Larry Butler (Rose) of Miami, Fla.; two daughters, Bertha Myers (Steve) of Plantation, Fla., and Vir-ginia Blevins (Keith) of Miami, Fla.; two sisters, Ruby Lee Pittman of Campbellton, Fla., and Bernice Baker of Miami, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Hilda Burns (Jerry) of Panama City, Fla., and Vida Mae Campbell of Ebro, Fla.; eight brothers-in-law, Alex Brown (Madie), Clarence Brown (Fannie), Willie Brown Jr. (Betty), all of Ebro, Fla., Lorenza Brown (Chris) of Texas, Leonard Brown (Phyllis) of Palm Bay, Fla., Henry James Smith (Mary), Willie James Smith (Gerdine) and Bozz Smith, all of Ebro, Fla.; four godchildren, Elaine Kelso, Melissa Kelso, Toya Kelso and Katrina Henry; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services for Brother Butler will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Parnell Smith Sr. as pastor and Elder Clarence Brown as eulogist. Interment will follow in Redwood Cemetery. Public visitation will begin from 1-8 p.m. today, Jan. 30, 2009, at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral services Saturday at the church.
