Rachel was known as Rose, or Rosie. Her birth date is not well known, but was likely anywhere between 1832 and 1844. She had eight children. There are conflicting documents, some showing her maiden name as Reis, others as Mandel.

At the time of her death due to a stroke in 1900, Rose lived at 51 Attorney Street, in the basement of a tenement in Manhattan, New York. Rose's gravestone says, in Yiddish, "A righteous modest woman who went in the right way. Did good all her days. Her wisdom was taught to many."
