Ruth E. Gates, 91, of 1100 E. State Rd., Newcomerstown, O., formerly of E. Canal St., Newcomerstown, died Saturday, July 12, 2008, in Riverside Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center at Newcomerstown, O. She was born April 18, 1917, at Port Washington, O., a daughter of the late Lillian Bernice (Adams) Johns and Jacob E. Johns. She was a housewife and a former member of the Women's Moose Lodge of Newcomerstown.

On Jan. 18, 1936, she married Herbert E. Gates, who died May 10, 2003.
Surviving are one daughter, Marie L. Nicolai and husband Lawrence F. of Humble, Texas; one son, Donald L. Gates of Warsaw; two grandchildren; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.

Services will be held at Addy Funeral Home on Thursday, July 17, 2008, beginning a 1 p.m. with Rev. Bill Surber officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery at Port Washington, O. Visitation is at Addy Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 16, 2008, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
