LAFAYETTE ROBINSON, of Fentress, was born November 9, 1846, at Rich Hill, Chester County, S. C, and is the son of John Williams Robinson and wife Rebecca Coleman Robinson. His ancestors came to America from North Ireland and settled in Massachusetts prior to the War of the Revolution; afterwards moved to South Carolina. The great-grandfatner of the subject of this sketch was wounded at the battle of Breeds Hill. Mr. Robinson attended the rural schools of Choctaw County ; entered Davidson College, North Carolina, and pursued studies one session; has been engaged in farming since boyhood; enlisted as a private in the Confederate Army when seventeen years of age; member of Company I, Fifteenth Mississippi Regiment ; member of the House of Representatives from Choctaw County, sessions of 1888-1890; elected to the House of Representa tives November 3, 1903. Mr. Robinson is a Democrat ; member of Presbyterian Church ; married April 30, 1872, at Mobile, Ala., to I sabella Jane Greer, daughter of Leroy and wife, Elizabeth ( Weir) Greer. Mr. and Mrs. Robinson have five living children: Joseph Wiley, Carrie ( Robinson ) Hood, Samuel Boyd.
