OGDEN -Hazel Rosella Smith Alexander passed away on April 28, 2008 from the effects of a massive stroke she suffered 12 years ago.

Hazel was born August 16, 1922 in Ogden to Esther East Smith and Martin Smith. She was a member of the LDS Church.

On April 3, 1938, she married John W. Alexander in Ogden. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this month.

She attended Lincoln Elementary and Mound Fort Junior High School and was active in singing groups and sang solo for many programs.

Hazel was a loving Mother, her children and her husband were her whole life. She coached many little league teams and was always involved in school functions, planning fundraisers and helping wherever she could. She loved having her family around and when any of her children were leaving town for any length of time she would always tell them to have a fun time, but please hurry back. She devoted her life to her husband, children and grandchildren; she loved them all very much.

She loved people and loved visiting with friends and was always concerned about them and their families.

After her children were grown, Hazel was employed at Wangsgards market and Sears. When her husband John was injured, after a near fatal fall from a roof, Hazel left her employment to stay at home and care for him. She was an extremely devoted caregiver.

In 1995, Hazel had a massive stroke and was bedridden. She made the very best of it and never lost her great sense of humor; she had a wonderful attitude and never gave up hope of walking again. Her sense of humor was delightful; she loved hearing a new joke so she could repeat it to friends and family who would stop by to visit. She was the epitome of courage.

Her husband was very devoted to Hazel and cared for her day and night; his love for her was evident in all he did. Her children rallied around her and one or more of them were there to assist in her care everyday. Hazel was very loved by her family. She was a great mother and wife and it was a privilege for her family to be there to help care for her.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Chris Napper; three sisters and three brothers and son-in-law Larry R. Wood.

Surviving are her husband; daughters Darlene Wood, Jackie (Jim) Garner, Colleen (Val) Read; sons John (Annette) Alexander, Dave (Kaye) Alexander; son-in-law Gary Napper; sisters Velma Stout; Violet Mc-Creary, Donna Lane, Beverly Barker, and brother Glen Smith; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Hazels sister, Velma Stout, for her daily visit to help in any way she could. A special thanks to Joey and Terry Smith for their commitment to assist in any way they could and a very special thank you to Apple-gate home care and the wonderful CNAs who gave Hazel such loving care. And a heartfelt thanks to all the many friends and family who were so willing to give support and comfort. The family would like to acknowledge all the wonderful nurses and Hospice for their watchful care to make sure Hazel was always comfortable.

Dear Mom, you will be greatly missed; you have been an inspiration to all of us. All who knew you will hopefully emulate the love and excitement you have shown for life. You bravely endured these last 12 years showing us great strength. Thank you for the life you have lived and the great example you have been. We love you very much.
