"Minnie" Butler was born in Belfast, N. Ireland to Patrick J. Nichols and Catherine McShane Nichols. She came the U.S. with her parents before 1875, when she was just a toddler. Minnie married Joe Butler on February 8, 1893 in St. Brigid's Catholic Church in Kansas City, Ks. When her mother died in 1909, she helped raise her youngest brothers and sisters, as well as, raising her deceased sister's, son as her own.
