Obituary in Chillicothe Constitution Tribune February 11, 1954
The death of Benjamin Franklin McCain 78, occurred at his home, 429 Polk street this morning at 12:25 o'clock. Mr. McCain had been in failing health for five years and serious for the last five and a half months. Benjamin Franklin McCain, a son of the late Levi and Sarah Shirley McCain, was born in Carroll County, Missouri October 25, 1875. He attended the Woods School in rural Carroll County. On October 28, 1896 he was married to Miss Mertie Maude Brownley near Plymouth. Mr. and Mrs. McCain lived on a farm nine miles southwest of dawn until October 10, 1944 when they moved to Chillicothe to make their residence. Mr. McCain had lived on the same farm for 64 years. Surviving is the wife, Mrs. Mertie Maude McCain of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Russell (Vesta) Stamm of 1535 Second Street and Mrs. John (Beulah) Isaacs of 1414 Polk Street; one brother, W.H. McCain of Dawn, and sister, Mrs. Ellen Holman of Braymer and one granddaughter, Mrs. Jane Rea Le Blanc of Chillicothe. His parents two children and four sisters preceded Mr. McCain in death. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of the Norman Funeral Home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Marvin J. Pitney, pastor of the First Baptist Church will conduct the memorial services. Interment will be made in the family lot in the Enon cemetery south of Dawn.
