Columbian, The (Vancouver, WA) - March 14, 2004

A heavy-equipment mechanic who had lived in Clark County for 26 years, Harold H. Crites, 80, died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, in Vancouver.

Mr. Crites was born April 24, 1923, in Gildford, Mont. He had served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and spent most of his life working as a mechanic. He raced stock cars as an amateur when he was younger and enjoyed restoring classic cars.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Sheila, at home; one son, Mike Wallace of Vancouver; five sisters, Lois Olson, LaRena Stewart and June Youso, all of of Havre, Mont., Dorene Rutter of Rainier, Wash., and Jeanne Johnston of Knappa, Ore.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Skyline Memorial Gardens in Portland.
