Retired from textile industry
Emily Strange Fowler, 88, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, of 226 Log Cabin Road went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 20, 2008.
Born in Spartanburg County, she was the widow of J. B. Fowler Jr. and daughter of the late Charles Fulton Strange and Mary Mahaffee Strange. She was a graduate of Reidville High School and was retired from the textile industry.
Mrs. Fowler was a member of White Plains Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Joyful Senior Group. She loved God's creation, flowers, trees, gardening and sunrise.
She is survived by three sons, Belton Fowler and wife, Judy, Lester Fowler and wife, Frances, and H. Ray Fowler and wife, Barbara, all of Gaffney; a daughter, Judy Weathers and husband, Harold, of Gaffney; four sisters, Ruth Sprouse of Greer, Martha Rogers of Sumter, Mary Lamb and husband, Elbert, of Rutherfordton, N.C., and Janie Willard and husband, Jessie, of Landrum; a sister-in-law, Florence Strange of Landrum; seven grandchildren, Jim Fowler, David Fowler and wife, Cathy, Tommy Fowler and wife, Melissa, Dennis Fowler and wife, Alison, Beth Fowler, Crystal Saar and husband, Ted, and Kristy Ramsey and husband, Ernest; two step-grandchildren, Jeff Atchison and Glenn Atchison and wife, Claire; eight great-grandchildren, Thomas Fowler, Garret Fowler, Brooke Fowler, Maria Fowler, Lauren Fowler, Nichole Fowler, Annabelle Saar and Baylee Saar; and three step-greatgrandchildren, Ian Atchison, Emma Atchison and Cece Sartagude.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Fowler was preceded in death by four brothers, Charlie Strange, Frank Strange, Glenn Strange and Hugh Strange; two sisters, Myrtle Reid and Rosa Lee Strange; and three grandsons, Bobby Weathers, Terry Weathers and David Weathers.
Services will be held Monday, March 24, at 2 p.m. at White Plains Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Nicholas King and Benny Davis. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation was held Saturday, March 22, from 3-5 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to White Plains Baptist Church Building Fund, 206 Soapstone Road, Gaffney, SC, 29340.
