Elva Mae (Miller) Brent, of Manchester, entered into rest on Friday, January 23, 2009, at her residence at the age of 78.

She was the former wife of Ray S. Orwig of York and Charles L. Brent who entered into rest June 26, 1994.

Mrs. Brent was born in Richmond, Va., on December 15, 1930, and was the daughter of the late Alvie R. and Ethel M. (Holmes) Miller.

She retired from McCrory Stores as an administrative assistant. She had previously been an executive secretary with Telephony Progress and had also been previously employed at J.E. Baker Company, Weldon Machine Tool, and Dentsply Corp. She was a graduate of Red Lion High School class of 1948, a graduate of Thompson Business College, and studied music at West Chester College. She was involved in singing throughout York County and was a soprano soloist at Trinity U.C.C. Church of York for three years. She was a member of St. Paul's Wolf's Evangelical Covenant Church and volunteered as a secretary at the church. She was also a member of the Surviving Spouse Socials, AARP, and Northeastern Senior Center. She loved music, reading, baseball, gardening, traveling, and card playing.

She is survived by a loving daughter, Velvet L. McNeil of Reading; a devoted fiance, Edward Vernon of Manchester; two loving grandsons, Eric McNeil of East York and Cody McNeil of Dover; a sister, Carolyn DeShong and husband, George of Lake Meade; a sister-in-law, Josie Haas of Lebanon; and several nieces and nephews.

Burial was at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. She will be missed and always have a place in her family's hearts.
