Last rites for Mrs. O. B.Johnson of Thompson, 89, were held Monday at Bethany Lutheran church in Thompson.
The Rev. Curtis Johnson of the church officiated and burial was in West Prairie cemetery near Thompson. Olson Funeral home of Forest City was in charge.
Mrs. Johnson was born Dec. 25, 1869, in Hardanger, Nor way. She came to the United States 70 years ago. Her parents were Arne and Anna Birkland. A long-time Thompson area resident, Mrs. Johnson died at her home Friday following a lingering illness.
Survivors include two sons, Louis of Forest City and Gisle of Thompson, and six daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Elsie) Larson of Thompson, Mrs. E. L. (Anna) Hagenson of Thompson, Ida Johnson of Chicago, Mrs. Oscar (Viola ) Johnson of Thompson, Mrs. James (Martha) Wentworth of Thompson, and Mrs. Don (Gladys) Loynachan of Des Moines. There are also 28 grandchildren and 33 great -grandchildren.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Goodman (Cora) Sorenson of Callendar, a daughter, Christine who died in infancy, and a son, Arthur, who was killed in action in World War I in France.
Mrs. Johnson was a Gold Star Mother and made a trip to France in 1930 sponsored by the government and visited the grave of her son. She was active in church work and helped organize the ladies aid at West Prairie Synod church. She was also active in Red Cross, American Legion auxiliary and Park association.
Mrs. A. J. Erickson and Mrs. James Halverson sang and Mrs. Norman Lockrem was organist for the funeral. Pallbearers were Gene Sorenson, Gale Sorenson, Robert Johnson, Alan Wentworth, Rayburn Hagenson and James Larson.
