Charles H. Lukens, 83, Lewiston
Charles H. Lukens, 83, passed away at his home in Lewiston Saturday, June 14, 2008. He died of natural causes.
Charles was born Sept. 4, 1924, at Pasco. He went to grade school at Craigmont and graduated from high school at Moscow in 1942.
After high school, he served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
After the war, he met and married his wife, Rosemary Marker, Dec. 7, 1946, in Nezperce. Charles and Rosemary had two children, Charlene in 1951 and Tim in 1957. After moving to Lewiston from Craigmont and doing various kinds of work, Charles became a successful cabinet maker.
Charles was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge in Lewiston, going through the officers' chairs and becoming a special deputy for this district. During his later years he was a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels.
He liked to fish and camp with his family, and he and Rosemary also traveled extensively in their recreational vehicle.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Sally Estes Lukens; his brothers, Jerry, Ken and Bob Lukens; and his sister, Verna Inglis.
Charles is survived by his wife, Rosemary; his two children, Tim and wife Colleen Lukens, and Charlene Hart and her friend Randy Dykes; his brother, Ed and wife Gerry Lukens of Boise; his two grandchildren, Jeremy Lukens, and Sheena and husband Eric Nault; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. A graveside service will follow.
