Robert Ralph Shaw, 94, formerly of Austin, died on Jan. 24, 2009 at Hastings Regina Hospital.

Bob was born March 10, 1914 in Faribault to Arthur and Magdalena (Kline) Shaw. On Oct. 14, 1935 he was united in marriage to Victoria Sippel at St. Theodore's Catholic Church in Albert Lea. They resided in Austin all of their 67 years of marriage. After Victoria passed away on Jan. 28, 2003, Bob moved to Hastings to live closer to his family. Bob was an active member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church and belonged to many organizations, including the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He began his employment with the Hormel Company prior to his graduation from Austin High School. He continued to work there for 46 1/2 years. Bob spent 52 years in public service as an Austin City Councilman and 4th District Mower County Commissioner. His major accomplishments include: attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, starting the Austin Youth Recreation Program, the addition of the Indian Museum to the Mower County Fairgrounds and establishing the Austin Recycling Center.

Survivors include his son, Robert (Mary) Shaw, Duluth; three daughters, Mary Kellogg, Sheffield, Ala., Suzanne (Roger) Schweich, Hastings, Vicky (Craig) Huber, Virginia Beach, Va.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Ordella (Ken) Rolfson, Austin; brother-in-law, George Sippel, Austin; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Arthur (Betty) Shaw; sister, Juanita Shaw.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, 2009 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. There will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
The casket bearers will be John Shaw, Mike Huber, Doug Tillma, Chris Larsen, Darrell Stacy and Duane Hanson.
