Luther M. Shirk, 91, ManorCare Lebanon, formerly of Shirk Lane, Myerstown, died Thursday, January 22, 2009, in ManorCare. He was the husband of the late Emma M. Gettle Shirk. He was born in Palmyra on February 24, 1917, son of the late Albert and Margaret Klinger Shirk. He was a retired carpenter, and a member of the local carpenter's union. He served six years in Panama with the U.S. Army Coastal Artillery prior to World War II. Surviving are sons Dennis R. Shirk and wife Sandra L. of Myerstown, James L. Shirk and wife Lori of Arkansas; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters Hattie Sabo and Ellen Blauch. Funeral services Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at 2 p.m. in Rohland Funeral Home Inc., Fifth and Cumberland streets, Lebanon, where a viewing will be held Tuesday beginning at 1 p.m. Interment in South Bellegrove Cemetery.
