Floyd W. Weaver, 82, of William St., Hagaman, NY, passed away Wednesday evening January 21st, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital with his loving family at his side.
Born in Hagaman, NY on March 7, 1926 a son of Alice Weaver. He was a lifelong Hagaman Resident and attended Amsterdam Schools.
Mr. Weaver was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theatre aboard the U.S.S. Cimarron and the U.S.S. Houston. He was employed by the General Electric Company in Schenectady as a Crane Follower in the Turbine Department for over 35 Years. He was Shop Steward for Local #301 for 20 years and was a Board member of #301 for 8 years.
He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and served as Usher at the Auriesville Shrine for many years. He served as Chief of the Hagaman Volunteer Fire Department # 218 for 7 years and has been a member for over 50 years serving in various capacities over his career. Floyd was also Boy Scout Leader for many years. He was Assessor for the Town of Amsterdam 20 years and was Past President of the Town of Amsterdam Democratic Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was the Secretary of the Rocky Ridge Hunting and Rod Club for 20 years. He was also a member of the VFW Post #8690in Broadalbin. He was a dedicated Ombudsman for the Elderly in the Village of Hagaman where he also served as Trustee and Foster Parent. He was a foster parent for 18 children.
He married his beloved wife Anna Rocco Weaver on November 30th 1946. In addition to his wife survivor's include four sons, Michael Weaver and his companion Peggy Klingbiel of Mayfield, NY, Floyd Weaver Jr. of Selma, Alabama, Harold R. and his wife Denise Weaver of Wilmington, N.C. and Edward A. Weaver of Hagaman, NY. One daughter, Paula Mainer and her husband Allan of Cobleskill, NY. Two brothers, Vincent (Albert) Turo of Amsterdam and Charles Turo of Semmes, Alabama. Four grandchildren, Michael Weaver, Carmelia Szemplinski, Amy Jean Barton and Randy Joseph Weaver. Six great-grandchildren, Jack Weaver, Madeline Barton, Rocco Szemplinski, Ruby Szemplinski, Julia Durran and Travis Santelli. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Floyd was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Turo and one sister Clara Bennett.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday January 26, 2009 at 10:00A.M. at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, Cornell St., Amsterdam with Father David Mickiewicz presiding. Interment will be in Hagaman Mills Cemetery, Hagaman, NY.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday January 25th, 2009 from 3:00 to 8:00P.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam. The Hagaman Volunteer Fire Department will meet on Sunday at 7:00P.M. at the funeral home to pay tribute to their departed brother Floyd. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hagaman Volunteer Fire Department or to St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church.
