Johnnie grew up in Pittsfield schools and graduated high school in the class of 1966.
U.S. Army Infantry 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry, D Company
Sgt. Johnnie Wayne Ator was killed February 8, 1969 in Pleiku, South Vietnam by small arms fire during an assault. He was not yet twenty-one years old. I remember you, Johnnie.
Johnnie and I were childhood friends. He lived a block east from me on West Adams Street in Pittsfield. We played and went to school together. I lost touch with him when my family moved from Pittsfield after 8th grade graduation. It wasn't until 2003 that I learned he had given his life in Vietnam as a soldier in the U.S. Army. HGR
