Roger Johnston Raymond, 81, of 55 Jackson Ave WE, formerly of 510 Front St., Jamestown, died Wednesday (Jan. 7, 2009) in WCA Hospital.
Roger was raised in Springville, N.Y., and resided in Hamburg, N.Y., prior to moving to Jamestown, where he lived for 30 years. He was born Dec. 10, 1927 in Buffalo, N.Y., the son of the late Paul Clayton and Margaret Best Raymond. Roger attended Springville Griffith High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. For 25 years, he was employed at Bethlehem Steel in Lackawanna, retiring as director of Ssafety. While in Jamestown, he served as director of safety at Blackstone Corp, and later retired from Beltone, where he worked in industrial sales.
He was a member of Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion, the Society of Industrial Engineers, past president of Jamestown Safety Council, past president of the National Safety Council and a former member of the Viking Lodge.
Roger enjoyed genealogy, traveling, Pierce Arrow automobiles, jazz and big band music and cats.
Surviving are, his wife, Gloria A. Glad Raymond, whom he married June 26, 1981 in First United Methodist Church; two daughters: Marcia A. (Victor) Rutecki of Williamsville, N.Y., and Sharon E. Raymond of Hamburg, NY; a son, Paul Johnston (Lisa) Raymond of State College, Pa.; seven grandchildren: Katherine, Laura, Todd, Mark, Phillip, Devin, and Gigi; and a brother, Dixon M. (Barbara) Raymond of Pittsboro, N.C.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Clayton Raymond.
