A few years ago, I became aware of a rumor among a few other Apgar/Eick descendants, that Margret Apgar may have been Jacob Eick II's 2nd wife, with the first perhaps a Mary Heck (c.1743-c.1799), conceivably implying that children born to Jacob in or before 1799, their mother may have been Mary Heck, not Margret Apgar.
Short of an extensive venture into the funhouse of mitochondrial DNA testing among female-female-female-etc descendants of the possible J.Eick-M.Heck/M.Apgar union(s), this rumor is not currently supportable. A careful and long-time researcher into Eick-descent, aware of a few mentions of the Heck rumor, agrees. He summarizes that most of the info he has, states that Jacob married Margaret Apgar about 1788, 2 years before the birth of their 1st son William. Besides which, Mary Heck's age, if correct, would alone almost exempt her candidacy as mother of Jacob's 1790's-era children. [Thank you, Rich.]
So, for the time being, I shall leave the J.Eick-M.Heck/M.Apgar rumor as just that, but also leaving the existence of said rumor, on their Memorial Pages. Anyone with compelling information on the matter, please feel free to contact me here.
