Mr. Gilmore was a rancher as well as taught school in Elbert, Texas and the Navaho Indian Reservation in Arizona. While serving in the Army during WW II, he taught numerous men how to read. He received bronze stars from the Asiatic Pacific Campaign and the Philippine Liberation.
He served as the Throckmorton County Clerk for several years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Throckmorton where he served as an elder since 1946. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and a past member of the American Legion.
He moved to Olney from Elbert in 1985. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one son Dennis Lee Gilmore on November 23, 1951.
Survivors at time of death included one son, Dale Gilmore and wife Kathy of Olney; one sister, Allene Patrick of Irving, Texas; and three grandchildren, Michael Gilmore and wife Charity, Ira Gilmore, and Molly Cauble and husband Robert.
