****!BOOK, "History and Biography of Kentucky", by Battle, Perrin, and
Kniflen, says
that Nancy, (Nancy Nail according to Perrin's), was killed by
Indians at Pitman's Station, on Pitman's Creek, It is traditionally thought
that several of the station's occupants took refuge in a cave beneath the
station, were buried, by the Indians, alive. The Indians blockaded the entrance
with a pile of brush that they set fire to, this tradition does not seem to hold
up under close scrutiny. It may be that Nancy's full name was Nancy Nell
Abbott, or it could be that Julian's mother was Nancy Nail. Whatever the case the
name Nail has been preserved in the family
BIRT DATE CA 1770
Killed by Indians at Pitman's Station 11 March 1789.
